This year has seen interesting releases from Nigerian artists. We are all boisterous as Afrobeats is making a claim on the international market. Some people cannot help but ask; what are the top Nigerian songs in 2019 so far?

That’s only the tip of the iceberg. As the top guys are working tirelessly to secure a spot for the Nigerian sound in the global space, there are emerging artists creating newfangled sounds and are constantly providing music lovers with quality content.

As a matter of fact, it’s almost as if the Nigerian music industry is being overhauled. The industry is more open to creatives as there are more platforms through which creators (artists and producers) can now reach and connect with their audience.

It’s a few days from August, which is the other half of the year, and we have compiled a list of the best 20 Naija songs (+1) of 2019. You should note that there will be some songs that dropped in (late) 2018 but became bigger hits in 2019.

DMW lead act, Davido, teams up with one of the world’s leading singer/dancer to create this certified banger that has recently been making waves, breaking grounds and “Shaking Tables”.

The official video just dropped a few hours ago and already has about 300,000 views. Looks like what is fasting heading to the over 1m views gang.

Jealous – Fireboy DML

As Motolani of Pulse ng said, Jealous is a sleeper hit, meaning that it’s the kind of song that grows steadily till it becomes a massive hit. The song was originally released on the YBNL Mafia Family album which dropped in late 2018.

The song started to grow organically and has yet to reach its peak. It’s still enjoying worldwide attention, making Fireboy DML one of the hottest acts in the Nigerian music industry. He has since released another chart-topping track What If I Say.

Am I A Yahoo Boy – Naira Marley feat. Zlatan Ibile

Naira Marley started giving unsolicited opinions on Instagram about internet fraud (Yahoo). This inspired him to release a song Am I A Yahoo Boy featuring Zlatan Ibile.

Dumebi – Rema

Rema‘s introduction into the music industry was unlike any other. It was massive. The young singer released an EP Rema which contained 4 songs.

Earlier in the year, Patoranking employed the services of Afrobeats superstar Davido to deliver this Afropop banger. Confirm has been on steady replay and it continues to gain attention all across Nigeria.

Dangote – Burna Boy

Haha that’s my president. The original Don Gorgon. Dangote was Burna‘s first release in 2019. The song appealed to every social class in Nigeria as it seemed to address something that matters to a lot of people: money.

‘Why me no go find money?’ Burna sings on Dangote. The song will never not be relevant.

Nobody Fine Pass You – T Classic

After collaborating with Mayorkun on his monster jam Fall In Love, T Classic went solo on Nobody Fine Pass You. Produced by budding producer IamBeatz, the song is RnB at its best.

The music video for the song has garnered almost 2 million views.

Low – Larry Gaaga feat Wizkid

We all know that Larry Gaaga specializes in giving us hits. He enlisted Wizkid on the banger Low and the Starboy comes through as usual.

Since its release, Low has been buzzing and it looks like it’s going to be that way for the rest of the year.

Umu Obiligbo – Culture feat Phyno & Flavour

Contender for biggest song of 2019? I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened. The song Culture is so big both at home and overseas.

Highlife group Umu Obiligbo joins forces with two prominent Eastern acts Phyno and Flavour to create a worldwide hit.

Uyo Meyo – Teni Entertainer

Towards the ending of 2018, Teni Entertainer dropped a single Uyo Meyo to celebrate the festive season. The song has continued to remain relevant and is certainly one of the biggest songs of the year.

Baby – Joeboy

After he was discovered by Mr. Eazi and was selected as one of the artists to benefit from the Empawa Platform, Joeboy dropped a smash hit Baby.

It’s mind-blowing how the song is getting so much love and Joeboy‘s fan base is growing so fast.

As the king of dancehall, Timaya can never do any wrong. The man has been giving us back-to-back hits since forever.

Balance is a certified jam and it’s another proof that Timaya still has the juice.

Zanku (Legwork) – Zlatan

Not only did Zlatan interestingly win our hearts with his rap style, he created a dance style Zanku that has since been the most popular dance from the streets.

The song Zanku was released in 2018 but its success didn’t dwindle in 2019. Rather it gained more popularity.

Madu – Kizz Daniel

Madu was one of the exceptional songs on Kizz Daniel‘s No Bad Songz album. It became an instant jam upon its release.

Woske – Olamide

In the heat of Zanku, king of the streets Olamide Baddo dropped a refined Zankufied song Woske. Produced by Killertunes, Woske quickly got the attention of many when it dropped.

The music video was as captivating as the song.

Killin Dem – Burna Boy x Zlatan Ibile

‘Mo gbe zanku wole mo ni ko fade Shaku shaku’ that was one of the hardest lines by Zlatan last year. Killin Dem was released a few days before 2019 and it entered the year with massive force.

Killin Dem has been topping charts and continues to enjoy constant airplay.

Fvck You – Kizz Daniel

Kizz Daniel released a song Fvck You and left an open verse for other artists to jump. The campaign was very successful such that the song became so huge.

Bum Bum – DMW feat. Davido & Zlatan Ibile

Davido jumped a song Osanle with Zlatan and the street pop act returned the favor. Bum Bum is a banger and has enjoyed massive airplay rotation. The music video is alluring as well.

Awele – Flavour x Umu Obiligbo

Awele is another superb highlife jam from Flavour and Umu Obiligbo. Their collaboration has proven to yield only bangers.

The song is huge in Nigeria and the abroad.

Azaman – Slimcase feat 2baba, Peruzzi, Larry Gaaga & DJ Neptune

Slimcase scored himself a major hit when he released Azaman. The song was produced by Cracker Mallo and it features Peruzzi, Larry Gaaga, 2baba, and DJ Neptune.

It’s one of the hottest songs of 2019.

True – Mayorkun feat. Kizz Daniel

What happens when two of the hottest Afropop acts Mayorkun and Kizz Daniel collaborate on a song? You guessed right. The song True is one of the biggest songs of 2019 so far.
